Learning Opportunities at Stony Brook

9 a.m. each Sunday, except in August, Easter Sunday, and some other holidays.   We are currently using Group Publishing’s “Faithweaver” program for all of our Christian education classes, pre-school through adult.  Following the Faithweaver curriculum keeps all of our classes on the same page – we all learn about the same Bible passage each week, although at different levels.  This allows adults and children to interact over the same topics and questions each week.  For a schedule of topics, click here.

The Bible can be challenging. Sometimes it is hard to understand. More often we understand it all too well, but struggle to put it into practice. Yet for believers the Bible is our source of spiritual nourishment, of guidance, of encouragement and of challenge. We read and study it on our own, but we also need to be challenged when we are together. Our Sunday morning teaching at Stony Brook is simply the exposition and proclamation of the life-giving word of God.

Often Christians need to learn about and discuss topics that cannot be addressed on Sunday morning. Our Stony Brook lectures provide a forum where we can hear about and discuss questions of theology, ethics, culture or church history. Lectures are held on the second Tuesday of each month at Second Baptist Church in South Hadley. We invite a speaker to lecture on a topic of importance to contemporary Christians, and we leave ample time for questions and discussion. Past topics have included Religion & Politics in in the recent election, the big bang, the Crusades, the philosophy of Nietsche, the Inklings, and science fiction and faith.
